Real Madrid beat Barcelona in the Spanish League standings. This was after they conquered Eibar on matchday 29.
Playing at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium on Saturday (3/4/2021), the two goals in Madrid’s victory were scored by a shot by Marco Asensio in 41 ‘and a header by Karim Benzema in 72’.
This result is valuable capital for Madrid, who will face Liverpool in the Champions League next week. Zinedine Zidane’s squad also rose to second place in the Spanish League standings with 63 points, one point ahead of Barcelona, who will play next week against Real Valladolid.
As for Eibar, this defeat kept them in the relegation zone, specifically in 19th place with 23 points.
The course of the match
Eibar threatened first in minute 3 with a distant shot from Pape Diop, but Thibaut Courtois managed to dodge it. Madrid responded through Karim Benzema shortly after, but his left foot was also stopped by Eibar goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic.
Benzema has another chance in minute 4 with a corner, but his header goes wide. Eibar responded in the 11th minute with a long shot from Bryan Gil, but failed to hit the target either.
Madrid were awarded a free kick in the 20th minute after Gil violated Lucas Vázquez on the right side of Eibar’s penalty area. Marco Asensio who kicks but hits the post. Three minutes later, Isco’s long-range shot was secured by Dmitrovic.
Eibar also had a chance in the 31st minute. Alejandro Pozo shot with his left foot into the Madrid penalty area, but was still on the left side of Courtois’ goal.
GOAL! Madrid won in the 41st minute. On a counterattack, Casemiro delivered a deep pass to Asensio. Uncontrollably free in front of Eibar’s goal, he easily fired a shot that settled into the left corner of the goal, conquering Dmitrovic.

The 1-0 scoreline lasted until the break.
In the second half, Madrid pressed again. Vazquez fired horizontally in the 48th minute, but Dmitrovic was able to block it. Asensio made a long-range shot in the 52nd minute, which Dmitrovic also countered.
The pressure from Madrid continues. Vazquez had another chance in the 59th minute, but his long-range shot went wide. Eibar tried to break out of pressure in the 63rd minute, but Pape Diop’s long shot went wide.
GOAL! Madrid doubled the lead in the 72nd minute. Benzema received a cross from the left from Vinicius Junior with a header that tore the right corner of Eibar’s goal. Real leads 2-0.

Behind two goals, Eibar did not give up. Takashi Inui had a chance in the 74th minute, but Courtois managed to deflect his shot. Madrid replied again through Benzema a minute later, but his long-range shot was caught by Dmitrovic.
After that there were no more goals and Madrid’s 2-0 lasted until the end.
