Police arrest 4 terrorists after bomb suicide in Makassar cathedral

MAKASSAR, KOMPAS.com – Police arrested 4 people suspected of being involved in a suicide bombing in front of Makassar Cathedral, South Sulawesi, on Sunday (3/28/2021).

National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the 4 people arrested were at Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara.

They are suspected of being part of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) South Sulawesi.

“Today we have insured about 4 people in the Bima area, which of course we insure because they are linked to the terrorist group,” Listyo Sigit said while visiting the Makassar Cathedral Church on Sunday night.

Listyo said he had ordered the head of the Special Anti-Terrorism Detachment (Densus) 88 to search for part of a terrorist group that threatens people’s lives.

Listyo also appealed to residents to remain calm and not panic after the suicide bombing at Makassar Cathedral Church.

“The public must be assured. Arrest them (the terrorists), take firm action if they defend themselves. This is clear, all colleagues have moved,” Listyo said.

It was previously reported that an explosion occurred in front of the Cathedral Church of Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Sunday around 10:30 WITA.

Police suspect this case as a suicide bombing.

According to the most recent information, 20 people were injured in the suicide bombing in front of the Cathedral.

Currently, the victims continue to be treated in various hospitals.

No church or congregation was killed.
