Jakarta – Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas strongly condemns the suicide bombing in front of the Makassar Cathedral Church in South Sulawesi. Yaqut considered that the suicide attack was a heinous act that tarnished the tranquility of social life and was far from religious teachings.
“Whatever the reason, this action is not justified by religion because the impact is not only on oneself but also very detrimental to others,” Yaqut said in a written statement on Sunday (3/28/2021).
As a result of this incident, several people were injured. At the time of the incident, some members of the congregation were praying in the cathedral church. Until now, the number or identity of the victims or perpetrators is still in the police census.
Yaqut hopes that the police will immediately reveal the history of the suicide bombing. Not only that, the Minister of Religion also hoped that the authorities would be able to fully reveal the actors involved in the incident.
Yaut predicted that the actions carried out by the suicide bombers were not carried out alone. Because often these actors are driven by networks, but they work in a quiet and orderly way.
Yaqut also called on the police to increase security at places of worship.
“The police also need to increase security in places of worship so that people can be more calm and solemn in worship,” said the Minister of Religion.
Due to this incident, the Minister of Religion also called on religious leaders to continue to improve the standard of good religious teaching and to emphasize the importance of being religious in moderation. According to Yaqut, any religion teaches its people to avoid acts of violence.
Because violence will erode human values and harm many parties. It is this violence that tends to break the order of life of the community that has been built harmoniously and well.
The Minister of Religion invited all parties to prioritize peaceful paths to address issues such as dialogue, discussion, friendship, etc. If this method is taken, it is believed that it will be able to solve the problems in question.
“Other than that, there is no party that feels aggrieved or victimized by violence,” he said.
As is known, the explosion occurred at 10:28 am local time. When the explosion occurred, several parishioners of the church were worshiping at the scene. In addition to the human remains, at the scene at that time, several injured victims were evacuated and taken to the hospital.
