Previously, All England’s Instagram account was invaded by Indonesian netizens. The community protested that the red and white team was asked to withdraw from the tournament.
On Thursday morning (3/18/2021) WIB morning, All England said the Indonesian team had to withdraw from the championship. Although at that time, there were six Indonesian representatives competing.
Initially, Jonathan Christie, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo / Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan could compete. However, three other representatives were requested to resign, namely Fajar Alfian / Rian Ardianto, Praveen Jordan / Melati Daeva and Antony Ginting.
The reason is that the Indonesian team is said to have flown from Istanbul to Birmingham, Indonesian players are on the same plane with a person testing positive for COVID-19. According to UK regulations, Indonesian players must be isolated for 10 days.
The Indonesian team itself had already undergone a PCR test upon arrival in Birmingham on Saturday (3/13/202), and all the results were negative. But suddenly, the Indonesian team received an email telling them that they were on a plane with a person who tested positive for COVID-19, so they had to undergo isolation, which meant they had to withdraw from the tournament.
Feeling unfairly treated, people protested online. The BWF and All England social media accounts were hit by attacks from netizens who were angered by the treatment of the tournament.
Until Saturday (3/20/2021), All England’s Instagram account disappeared. There was no official explanation from the tournament organizers about the disappearance of their social networks.
Meanwhile, the All England Twitter account still exists. Some updates are still routinely shared on the world’s oldest tournament Twitter account.
