JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Defendant in the Petamburan crowd case Rizieq Shihab was furious because he was forced to attend the next trial that was held virtually on Friday (03/19/2020).

Rizieq had to be forced by the prosecutor, assisted by the police, to be in the courtroom of the Bareskrim Polri detention center on Friday morning.

This is because the former leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) once again insisted that he did not want to attend the virtual trial.

“Use whatever means the defendant is present at the trial! Ask the police to bring the defendant,” Chief Judge Suparman Nyompa said in a live broadcast on the East Jakarta District Court YouTube account.

When he was finally presented to a screen showing the East Jakarta District Court panel of judges, Rizieq immediately erupted in anger.

“I am coerced, pushed, humiliated! This is my human right,” Rizieq exclaimed to the jury.

Suparman tried to calm Rizieq and asked the defendant to sit down.

“Sit down first, Habib, I’ll explain. Sit down first. Please sit down. Please calm down, Habib,” Suparman said.

However, Rizieq continued to show his anger while still standing.

“This is my human right guaranteed by law. The law guarantees and protects me to be present in the courtroom,” Rizieq said.

“I ask to demand that the law be implemented. This is a court, it is under the authority of the law. How come they have taken away my rights? he continued.

Suparman then tried to calm Rizieq again, emphasizing that the defendant received an honorable trial from the state.

“This is a conference, Habib, a state conference. A state conference, not a government conference,” Suparman said.

“Look behind me, there are no photos of the president and vice president. That is a photo of the Garuda bird, which indicates that this is an honorable judgment for Habib,” he continued.

Later, Suparman asked Rizieq to comply with the judgment.

“Therefore, Habib, I ask that this (conference) be used properly to obtain justice, to obtain your rights as a defendant. Therefore, I beg Habib, please obey all orders in this conference,” Suparman said.

The conference finally took place with the prosecutor’s indictment reading agenda.

The trial was interrupted at 12.00 WIB due to Friday prayers and continued at 13.00 WIB.
