Jokowi decides to repeal the regulation on investment in alcohol in the presidential decree 10/2021

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government has decided to revoke the regulations on investment in the alcoholic beverages industry as stated in the annex to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 10 of 2021 regarding the Business Investment Sector.

This decision was relayed by President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (2/3/2021).

“I hereby transmit, I decide the annex to the Presidential Decree regarding the opening of new investment in the alcoholic liquor industry, I declare it revoked,” Jokowi said in a YouTube video broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.

According to Jokowi, this decision was made after receiving input from various religious community organizations and local governments.

“After receiving input from MUI ulama, Nahdlatul Ulama NU, Muhammadiyah and other mass organizations and other religious figures, as well as input from provinces and regions,” Jokowi said.

As previously reported, the government established the alcoholic beverage industry as a Positive Investment List (IPR) starting this year.

Previously, the industry was classified as a closed business sector. This policy is contained in Presidential Decree No. 10 of 2021 relative to the Investment Business Sector.

The regulation, which is a rule derived from Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation, has been signed by President Jokowi and will enter into force on February 2, 2021.
