Bergamo –
Real Madrid fought to beat Atalanta. Los Blancos defender Nacho Fernández believes their teamwork should be respected.
Madrid visited the Atalanta headquarters at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia stadium in Bergamo, in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, Thursday (2/25/2021) WIB at dawn. Zinedine Zidane’s team won 1-0 with a goal from Ferland Mendy in the 86th minute.
Madrid’s positive result was also influenced by Atalanta’s limp in the match. The Italian team had to play with 10 people from the 17th minute because of Remo Freuler’s red card.
In addition to the large number of players, Madrid also have problems at the Atalanta headquarters. The Whites lost nine senior players through injury.
“We only managed to score one goal, that’s true,” Nacho said when Real Madrid’s attack was questioned because it was only against 10 players, quoted by Marca.
“We have to give a lot of credit for what this team did. We are back in the title race, we won here! We tried hard and we have to respect what we did,” he continued.
Madrid currently have four clean sheets in a row. Real previously achieved it in three LaLiga matches, specifically against Getafe, Valencia and Real Valladolid.
“The objective of this game is to keep a clean sheet. We did a very good job defending,” Nacho said.
“Yes, our rivals are outnumbered, but it’s not easy. If we keep a clean sheet, goals can come from anywhere at the end,” he said.
