News of the thousands of people who have arrived in Indonesia since December 2020 and tested positive for COVID-19 has made the scene. They were confirmed positive even though they had brought free COVID-19 letters.
Information on the arrival of foreign nationals and repatriated Indonesian citizens was relayed by the Head of the COVID-19 Management Working Group, Doni Monardo, in a press conference seen on Sunday (2/21/2021). Doni said that around 1,214 people tested positive for COVID-19.
“Here, ladies and gentlemen, since December 28, 2020 there have been 1,214 people who have tested positive for COVID, both Indonesian citizens with a total of 1,092 and 122 foreigners,” said Doni Monardo.
Doni then explained the 10 countries with the most positive cases of COVID-19. According to Doni, those who were exposed to COVID had a COVID-free certificate.
Then there are 10 countries with the most positive cases, starting with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan. In fact, I repeat, they all have COVID-free certificates, “Doni explained.
Doni said the COVID-19 Task Force team and the Health Ministry would further investigate this information.
“Now the question is whether they were exposed but not infected or exposed during the flight. This is our work together with the Ministry of Health to seek more information,” said Doni Monardo.
The spokesperson for the COVID-19 Management Working Group, Wiku Adisasmito, gave a more detailed explanation. Wiku explained that thousands of positive people despite carrying COVID-free letters can occur due to a number of factors.
“Many factors can cause it,” Wiku said, when asked for confirmation, on Sunday (2/21/2021).
Wiku explained that it could be that the PCR test was done too early during the incubation period of the virus. Also, people arriving in Indonesia can test positive for COVID-19 due to exposure while traveling.
“PCR swabs taken too early during the virus incubation period may not detect the presence of the virus. It could also be due to the imperfect quality of the swab collection and laboratory testing. Also, it could be due to infection between the tests in the country of origin before departure (3×24 hours), during travel, or during quarantine, “said Wiku.
Therefore, Wiku said, the PCR inspection process was carried out 3 days before departure. After that, those arriving from abroad are quarantined when they arrive in Indonesia.
“The average incubation period for this virus is 5 to 6 days. The detection process, which requires PCR swabs 3 x 24 hours before departure time, upon arrival in Indonesia and 5 days after quarantine, is an effort to ensure that travelers entering Indonesia are in good health and prevent imported cases, “Wiku said.
