Bangkok –
Senior men’s doubles Hendra Setiawan / Mohammad Ahsan reached the final of the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals. Following the victory over Choi Solgyu / Seo Seung Jae.
Hendra / Ahsan faced the Korean doubles in the semi-finals at Impact Arena, Bangkok on Saturday (1/30/2021). Fighting for two games, Hendra / Ahsan won with a score of 23-21, 21-13.
This victory secures Hendra / Ahsan one step away from the title. Hendra / Ahsan will then fight for the trophy against the winner between Lee Yang / Wang Chi-Lin vs Ben Lane / Sean Vendy on Sunday (1/31).
Hendra / Ahsan reached their second consecutive final in this tournament. In 2019, Hendra / Ahsan emerged as champions after crushing the Japanese couple Hiroyuki Endo / Yuta Watanabe in the main match.
The victory over Choi / Seo also sharpened Hendra / Ahsan’s good record to 1-2. Hendra / Ahsan were finally able to win after losing their previous encounters at the 2019 Hong Kong Open and the 2021 Yonex Thailand Open.
Despite winning two games in a row, the match was not very easy for Hendra / Ahsan, especially in the first games. Hendra / Ahsan were even by their opponents on the first points, but then they made the distance after the break.
Choi / Seo slowly won the numbers and followed Hendra / Ahsan at positions 18-18. Hendra / Ahsan needed two game points before taking the opening game with a 23-21 lead.
The second gym runs easier for Hendra / Ahsan. They both played smarter to dominate Choi / Seo and won 11-5 going into the interval.
After that, Hendra / Ahsan constantly does Choi / Seo under pressure. An Ahsan cross to the right side of the opponent’s court was unwilling to come back to secure their victory.
