Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Bank of Indonesia (BI) emphasizes that anyone who does not use rupees in transactions can be subject to a maximum prison sentence or one year in prison. In addition, the person will be subject to a maximum fine of 200 million IDR.
The head of BI’s Communication Department, Erwin Haryono, said that the provision was contained in Law Number 7 of 2011 on Currency. He said that article 21 of the Currency Law establishes that the rupee must be used in any transaction that has the purpose of payment, settlement of other obligations that must be met with money and other financial transactions.
“Therefore, if there is a transaction that uses denominations other than the rupee, article 21 of the Foreign Exchange Law is violated, with a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a maximum fine of 200 million rupees,” he told CNNIndonesia.com, Thursday (28/1).
These sanctions are regulated in article 33 of the Currency Law. It is established that if someone who does not use rupees in each transaction whose purpose is the payment, settlement of other obligations that must be fulfilled with money, and other financial transactions, he will be punished with a maximum imprisonment of one year and a maximum fine of 200 million rupees.
“If someone refuses to accept the rupee that is intended for payment, they will also be subject to the same criminal penalty,” he added.
As is known, various people use dirhams and dinars to conduct transactions. Transactions in dinars and dirhams were found in various markets, namely the Muamalah market in various cities, namely Depok, Bekasi, West Java and Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY).
In response to this practice, Erwin said that it was a criminal act that fell within the purview of the police. However, the central bank will continue to take a persuasive approach in the form of education and understanding for the public.
“When a crime has entered the domain of the police, we will first take a persuasive approach so that the public understands it,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of the urban village of Tanah Baru, Zakky Fauzan, reported that the Muamalah market had been reported to the authorities. Reports were made to the Beji sub-district and the Depok City Satpol PP.
“But the sub-district and the municipality of Satpol PP have been gradually informed for further action,” Zakky said. CNNIndonesia.com.
