Mount Merapi erupts, dangerous sirens carry people to safe places

Mount Merapi has erupted this afternoon. Danger sirens roared and residents in disaster prone areas (KRB) began descending to safety.

Supervision detikcom in Ngrangkah, Umbulharjo, Cangkringan, Sleman, Wednesday (1/27/2021), when the eruption occurred, the peak of Mount Merapi was covered in clouds. The eruption occurred at 13:30 WIB.

The direction of the eruption is estimated to be towards the southwest sector. Sliding distance and column height have not been observed. When it exploded, there was no rumbling sound.

When it exploded, sirens sounded in Ngrangkah. The volunteers then moved to a safe place. Residents around Ngrangkah came out of the house to control the state of Merapi.

Meanwhile, when Mount Merapi erupted, the wind was blowing from west to east. So far, there have been no reports of volcanic ash fallout.

Meanwhile, the BPPTKG has not provided an official statement on this afternoon’s eruption.

On the other hand, Sleman BPBD Head of Disaster Mitigation Joko Lelono explained that the eruption of Mount Merapi caused the residents of Padukuhan Turgo, Purwobinangun Urban Village, Kapanewon Pakem to resign.

“Some of the residents of Turgo have moved to SD Sanjaya Tritis and Tritis camp,” Joko said via text message on Wednesday (1/27/2021).
