jpnn.com, JAKARTA – The racial action of Ambroncius Nababan against the figure of Papua Natalius Pigai has provoked many protests. Various elements of society, including religious leaders, also responded to the incident.
Archbishop of Merauke Msgr. PC Mandagi, MSC supports the steps of law enforcement officials to process Ambroncius Nababan’s actions in a transparent manner. Bishop Mandagi hopes that in the future there will be no more cases of racism in the country, especially those targeting Papuans.
On that occasion, Mandagi found it natural for Papuans to be offended and angry at Ambroncius’ racial actions. However, Bishop Mandagi warned that anger should not be manifested by committing acts of violence.
“I believe that Papuans, especially in South Papua, will not be provoked by violence by this harassment. Papuans will show maturity as a human person and as a religious community, ”Mandagi was quoted as saying in TNI Puspen’s written statement on Tuesday (1/26/2021).
Furthermore, Bishop Mandagi invites all parties as brothers of the nation to respect each other, not to humiliate and insult the status of someone based on other ethnic, religious and racial groups.
“We are all human beings who have a high and equal rank in God’s eyes. We are not animals or animals that have no feelings,” Mandagi said.
Previously, many community leaders condemned the Ambroncius Nababan racial act, as did community leaders and the Batak community in Papua.
Batak Community Harmony (KMB) in Yapen transmitted a statement of rejection through a written statement number: 01 / SP-KMB-YAPEN / I / 2021 and read by KMB Director Gokman Simbolon.
