The perpetrator of the theft of hand sanitizers on the TransJakarta bus on the Ragunan-Halimun route was recently arrested. TransJakarta officers on behalf of Fikri Afif (PLH) and Joko S (DKO officers) secured the perpetrators on behalf of VA at the Blok M-Kota route stop today.

The arrest began when Fikri suspected that a passenger who looked like the perpetrator was waiting for a bus at the Polda bus stop heading to Blok M, south Jakarta. This is because the perpetrator was wearing the same clothes when he stole the hand sanitizer last Wednesday (1/20), that is, an orange shirt, a black bag and a red hat.

Based on this suspicion, Fikri also informed Joko to follow him. Suddenly when he got off at the Blok M bus stop, VA he was immediately arrested by officers.

“Our DKO officers who were on guard immediately arrested the perpetrators at the Blok M stop. Of course, TransJakarta really appreciates the alertness of our two officers,” said PT TransJakarta President and Director Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo, in a written statement on Sunday (1/24/2021).

When they were arrested, officers questioned VA’s motives for stealing hand sanitizers. VA reasoned that she wanted to treat her sore leg.

After further investigation, both the perpetrator and TransJakarta decided to take the family route. However, the VA was also subject to penalties.

“The author has made an official statement about his mistake. In addition, as a deterrent effect, sanctions will also be imposed,” said Jhony.

To anticipate the same incident from happening again, TransJakarta is committed to adding a fleet of security officers on the bus and at bus stops. Jhony also invited the community to jointly protect public facilities for mutual comfort.

As is known, the theft of hand sanitizers occurred on a TransJakarta bus some time ago. The act of theft was recorded by surveillance cameras installed on all buses and bus stops in TransJakarta. Video recording is also widely distributed on social media.

In the circulating video, it appears that a woman dressed in an orange T-shirt will get off at one of the bus stops. However, before getting off the bus, the woman was seen taking a bottle of hand sanitizer and putting it in a bag.

PT Jakarta Transportation Services and Development Director Achmad Izzul Waro said the theft occurred on Wednesday (1/20). The robbery, he said, occurred on the bus on the Ragunan-Halimun route.

“The crime occurred on a Mayasari bus with the number MYS 21235 that operated on the Ragunan-Halimun route (Corridor 6) on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 07.30 WIB,” Izzul said in a written statement on Thursday (1/21 ).

Izzul said that the provision of hand sanitizers is a commitment to implement health protocols. He also invited the public, especially TransJakarta customers, to participate in the maintenance of the public facilities for the common interest.

“Of course, all public facilities must be taken care of together. Also, this is one that is important and must exist in public transport. With this, all customers can feel safe and comfortable using TransJakarta services,” he said.
