jpnn.com, BOGOR – Bogor Deputy Regent Iwan Setiawan revealed the reason for the flash flood at Gunung Mas complex to be precise in Tugu Selatan village, Puncak area, Cisarua, Bogor, West Java on Tuesday (1/19).

“Because the intensity of the water (rain) is quite high, and there are blocks that hold the water, it will cause a flood (flash flood),” he said while checking the location of the flood.

According to him, the water flowing into the Ciliwung River had collected in a waterfall because it was blocked by debris. Then the debris holding the water broke because they could not contain it.

The intensity of rain for several days in the southern Bogor Regency region is considered high. BMKG even recorded the rains in Gunung Mas area on Tuesday morning with the status of heavy rain with rainfall of 107.5mm per day.

The Gerindra Party politician also confirmed that the incident was not caused by logging in areas categorized as protected forests.

“There is a protected forest here, there are no buildings here, there is no logging, there is a waterfall. If you look at the area here, it is very barren from illegal logging or there are no buildings,” Iwan said.

The flooding caused by the flow of the Ciliwung tributary that passes through the PTPN VIII tea plantation damaged the houses of several neighbors and closed several access roads.

BPBD Bogor Regency noted that 134 families (KK) with 474 people had to flee to mosques and places that were considered safe, because there were concerns that more flash floods could occur. (between / jpnn)
