Inter qualify for the quarter-finals to face AC Milan on January 27.
The course of the match
Inter made seven changes and, for the first time this season, Antonio Conte played four from behind, 4-2-3-1. Lautaro Martínez became the spear supported by Christian Eriksen, Ivan Perisic and Alexis Sánchez.
Inter were on the attack from the first minutes and created several chances through Arturo Vidal and Martínez, but the rear of Fiorentina managed to block it.
The best chance came in the 37th minute when Eriksen fired a strong shot from outside the area and was pushed by Pietro Terracciano. The ball quickly rebounds for Sánchez, but is fouled instead.
The foul was reviewed by the VAR and resulted in a penalty for Inter three minutes later. Arturo Vidal as the executor successfully beat Terraciano to put the visitor ahead 1-0.

Fiorentina had a penalty when Milan Skriniar was found to have raped Christian Kouame. Skriniar protested because he felt he threw the ball first and the VAR proved the truth.
Until he drank, Inter kept winning 1-0. Inter continued to dominate early in the second half and had a chance to score a goal in the 48th minute if Martinez’s kick did not widen from the goal.
Fiorentina finally managed to equalize in the 57th minute when Giacomo Bonaventura’s corner was not well anticipated by the Inter defense. The ball fell at the feet of Christian Kouame, who shot into the upper right corner of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

Needing a goal, Inter brought on Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi in the 69th minute to sharpen the attack line. Hakimi came close to scoring in the 73rd minute when he came out from behind to hit the ball with his right hand, but went wide.
Fiorentina threatened Inter’s goal in the 83rd minute when Bonaventura had a chance in the penalty area. Handanovic stopped his shot with his right foot.
Three minutes later, Hakimi threatened Fiorentina’s goal, but his right-footed shot was blocked by Terracciano. No further goals were created and the score 1-1 led the two teams into the 2 x 15 minute overtime round.
During extra time, Inter continued to have trouble scoring goals. Many opportunities were wasted due to the lack of shots from the Inter forward.
The entrance of Lukaku and Nicolo Barella did not make much difference either. Terracciano’s toughness between the Fiorentina crossbar made Inter almost frustrated.
He thwarted Lukaku’s chance with a header in front of goal in the 116th minute. But not in the 119th minute when Lukaku made Fiorentina bow.
After crossing Barella into the penalty area, Lukaku received the ball with his head and led Inter to win 2-1, in addition to closing the tickets for the quarterfinals.
