Fleet I of the Underwater Rescue Department (Dislambair) TNI AL had raised debris that was thought to be a part of the aircraft’s turbine Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 that fell into the waters of the Thousand Islands and was transferred to the JICT Integrated Post.
The debris suspected of being the aircraft’s turbine has been transported by crane to the Indonesian Navy’s KRI Cucut. The ship, with the Major Commander of the Marine Corps Orri Ronsumbre, evacuated the LKP aircraft turbine section.
“This turbine was found in the vicinity of KRI Rigel with three-dimensional sonar,” he explained in an official statement on Sunday (1/10).
The debris found in the waters between Laki Island and Lancang Island is one of the largest debris found during the thaw since yesterday Saturday (1/9).
Subsequently, the turbine was handed over to Basarnas Director of Operations, Brigadier General TNI (Mar) Rasman as SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC). The SMC then turned everything over to the NTSC for further investigation. It is suspected that this part of the aircraft’s turbine was transported along with 30 other bags containing SJ 182 aircraft debris.
Later, before starting the investigation, the collected debris will be numbered first. The search for the remains of SJ 182 will continue tomorrow morning.
The Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 airliner on the Jakarta-Pontianak route is known to have lost contact on Saturday (9/1). It was later declared to have crashed and it is estimated that between the Laki Islands and Lancang Island, Basarnas estimates the crash site to be 20 to 23 meters deep.
