JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) announced the results of its investigation into the death of six members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) army on the Jakarta-Cikampek Km 50 toll road, Karawang, West Java.

In its findings, Komnas HAM divided two contexts on the death of six members of the FPI laskar.

In the first context, two members of the FPI laskar were killed when fighting with the police from the West Karawang International Highway to the Jakarta-Cikampek Km 49 tollbooth.

The death of four members of the FPI laskar was considered a violation of human rights.

“There were four people who were still alive under the control of state officials who were later found dead,” Komnas HAM Commissioner Choirul Anam said at a press conference on Friday (1/8/2021).

“The incident was a form of human rights violation,” Anam said.

In this case, six members of the FPI laskar were shot dead by members of the Polda Metro Jaya after allegedly assaulting the police on the morning of December 7, 2020.

During the reconstruction on Monday morning (12/14/2020), the police described that members of the FPI laskar first attacked and shot the police during the incident.

Police said the results of the reconstruction were not final.

Additional reconstruction may be done if there are new findings. There are differences of information between the police and the FPI regarding this incident.

The FPI previously denied that members of the laskar attacked and shot the police first. According to the FPI, members of the laskar are not equipped with firearms.
