JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Terrorism convict Abu Bakar Ba’asyir will be released from Gunung Sindur Penitentiary, Bogor Regency, on Friday (1/8/2021).
Rika Aprianti, director of Public Relations and Protocol at the General Directorate of Corrections, said that Ba’asyir would be free because her 15-year sentence had ended.
“The person in question will be released on January 8, 2020 according to the expiration date or the expiration of the penal period,” Rika said on Monday (4/1/2021).
Rika said that, in Ba’asyir’s release, the General Directorate of Corrections will cooperate with the National Counter-Terrorism Agency and the 88th Anti-Terrorism Special Detachment.
“And coordinate with family and related parties,” Rika said.
On the other hand, the head of the regional office of the West Java Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, Imam Suyudi, said that Ba’asyir received a total referral of 55 months.

“He was sentenced to 15 years after receiving a 55-month remission, that is, general remission, decades, special, Eid and disease remission,” Imam said, quoted by Tribunnews.com.
It is known that Ba’asyir was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Panel of Judges of the South Jakarta District Court (PN Jaksel) in 2011. The verdict did not change to the level of cassation.
Ba’asyir, leader and caretaker of Al-Mukmin Ngruki Islamic boarding school, Sukoharjo, Central Java, was legally and convincingly shown to motivate others to use funds to commit terrorist offenses.
