Indonesian Navy reveals Seaglider function, missile-like objects in Selayar

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, said that the glider is one of the marine equipment that can be used in the military and defense industries.

Yudo explained one of the uses of this equipment in the military field, namely as an opening for submarines in the deep water zone. This use also applies to tools found in the waters off Selayar, South Sulawesi, by a fisherman who has been confirmed as a sea glider.

“If defense is used, maybe it can be used on depth data or cap “Yudo said during a press conference at the Indonesian Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Headquarters (Pushidrosal), Ancol, North Jakarta, on Monday (4/1).

Yudo said that the glider works completely under the sea. This tool will dive into the search for data, road maps to various information related to oceanography that the user or operator of the tool needs.

Once the data is collected, the glider will send it out, taking a few moments to the surface to emit a signal that can be captured by the detection satellite. Even so, according to Yudo, the data obtained by this tool is not so confidential either, since all the data can be accessed on the website provided in relation to this tool.

However, Yudo did not clearly specify which pages of the website can be accessed to find out the data capture of the tools said to be diving in high water.

In addition, Yudo also detailed that if this tool is used to find the route of a submarine, this tool will submerge in concentrated waters. Because he said, the dense sea conditions can prevent the movement of submarines from sonar detection.

Therefore, logically and with calculations, the submarine can walk freely without fear of being detected by anyone.

“Looking for depth and cap-thick or not. If it is concentrated, the submarine is generally not detected by the ship’s sonar. They can survive through the routes that you saw in the data (that) the depth of the sea water is very thick, ”Yudo said.

On that occasion, Yudo also admitted that so far his party could not confirm the country of origin of the owner of the glider found in Selayar waters. He also gave his subordinates a month to research and find out the country of origin for what use the glider is now stored at Pushidrosal headquarters.

“I gave Pak Kapushidros a month to determine or release the results for certainty,” Yudo said.

The Seaglider, which was later called an underwater drone, was found by a fisherman in Selayar, Majapahit Village, Selayar Regency, South Sulawesi. It is said that the fisherman was fishing when he found the tool floating in the waters of Selayar.

Previously, Australian Institute of Strategic Policy security and defense expert Malcolm Davis suspected the object was an underwater drone sent by China to understand oceanography and the nature of the region’s underwater bathymetry.

Military and intelligence observer Susaningtyas Nefo Handayani Kertopati reminded the Indonesian government not to underestimate the discovery of the UUV (Unmanned Underwater Vehicle).

The drone is believed to belong to China. The government is asked to immediately determine the strategic steps in this regard.

“The Ministry of Defense, TNI Headquarters and TNI AL Headquarters should not underestimate the findings of the three UUVs some time ago. Do not focus on tackling Covid-19 and then reducing National Surveillance against the dangers of a major war in the South China Sea, “Susaningtyas said in Jakarta on Monday (4/1).

Nuning, his nickname, said that the UUV findings were a fact that several developed countries at sea have carried out the use of an unmanned system.
