AC Milan returned to the top of the Italian League standings. This certainty was obtained after beating Benevento 2-0 in the 15th giornata.

Playing at the Ciro Vigorito Stadium on Monday (4/1/2021) WIB early in the morning, Milan took the lead through a penalty from Franck Kessie in the 15th minute. However, mentally the Rossoneri put themselves to the test when they had to play with 10 men from minute 33, after Sandro Tonali’s red card.

Even so, Milan managed to double the lead thanks to Rafael Leao in the 49th minute. Benevento kept attacking and even got a penalty in the 60th minute, but still failed to score.

Raihan, with three points, brought Milan back to first place with 37 points, one point ahead of Inter Milan, who were second. As for Benevento, this defeat placed him in 10th place with 18 points.

The course of the match

Brahim Díaz threatened Benevento’s goal in the 3rd minute, but his long-range shot went over the net. Diogo Dalot performed a similar experiment at minute 13, but the results were not very different.

PENALTY! The referee signaled the point after Ante Rebic was violated by Alessandro Tuia in the Benevento penalty area. Franck Kessie, as always, stepped forward as executor and successfully fulfilled his duties. Milan winning 1-0.

A goal from behind, Benevento tried to reply. Roberto Insigne fired a long-range shot in the 20th minute, but still hit the Milan post. The Rossoneri took turns attacking shortly after, but Rafael Leao’s shot also missed the mark.

Milan have to play with 10 people from minute 33. Sandro Tonali was sent off after his ferocious foul on Artur Ionita while fighting for the ball. Despite the decision-making involving the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), the Milan players protested strongly. But the referee remained firm in his position.

Superior in number of players, Benevento is more and more courageous to attack. Gaetano Letizia almost found Milan’s goal in the 37th minute, if Gianluigi Donnarumma didn’t count his shot from long range.

By the end of the first half, Benevento’s attacks were getting worse. Insigne has another chance at 44 ‘but Donnarumma saves his shot. A minute later, it was Perparim Hetemaj’s turn to be thwarted by the Italian team’s goalkeeper.

The first part ended goalless.

In the second half, Milan immediately doubled their lead in the 49th minute. Receiving the bait from Rebic, Rafael Leao ran into the penalty area. There he was cleared by Benevento goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo.

Without losing his head, Leao dribbled out of the penalty area, to be precise on the left side of the penalty area, then shot a lob that Montipo could not reach that had not returned to the net perfectly. Milan leads 2-0.

Behind two goals, Benevento gets hotter. Insigne had another chance in the 52nd minute, but his shot near Milan’s goal went up. Riccardo Improta fired a long-range shot in the 56th minute, but Donnarumma got past it.

SANCTION FOR BENEVENTO! In the 60th minute, Rade Krunic violated Gianluca Caprari in the prohibited area, the referee also signaled the point. Caprari himself took the lead, but his shot went wide.

Benevento continues to seek goals. In the 69th minute, Gianluca Lapadula was about to burst into Milan’s goal, but Donnarumma managed to deflect the Peruvian forward’s shot.

Milan was not far behind after winning. From time to time the Rossoneri still try to fight back. Hakan Calhanoglu even came close to scoring a third, but his long-range shot in the 72nd minute missed the post.

Insigne continues to actively attack Milan’s goal. He had another chance in the 74th minute, but this time he still failed to lead to Milan’s goal.

Milan nearly scored again in the 84th minute. Kessie seemed to have been on the verge of scoring a goal, but his shot hit the post. In the remaining time, no more goals were scored and Milan won 2-0.
