Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
The Ministry of Commerce declared the possibility price know and tempe it will go up in the domestic market next week. This is the result of the price increase soy which is the raw material of tofu and tempeh.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Commerce, Suhanto, said that the increase occurred because the price of imported soybeans increased from the current range of Rp9,000 to Rp9,300 to Rp9,600 per kilogram.
“There is the possibility of price adjustments because the purchase of soy by artisans of tofu and tempe from importers has already increased. I regret that if they do not increase it, they will lose money,” Suhanto told CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (2/1).
Even so, he still couldn’t estimate how likely the price increase for tofu and tempe would be. However, he gave an example that the increase in the price of imported soybeans is currently around 3.3 percent of the normal price.
Meanwhile, the raw material of soy is a component that contributes about 70 percent of the production cost of tofu and tempe. The rest are other production costs, such as labor to packaging.
“I don’t know if the increase will be linear like 3.3 percent or not, or even 5 percent. But I have ordered them (the tofu and tempe artisans) not to increase the increase too much, the important thing is that there is still profit, but do not load it. society as well, “he said.
Furthermore, Suhanto said that the possible increase in tofu and tempe prices is the result of reports from tofu and tempe artisans who are members of the Indonesian Tofu and Tempe Cooperative Association (Gakoptindo).
This is also a temporary way out of the tofu and tempe artisans’ production strike.
“Yesterday they planned to stop production, but then we have coordinated it, so they have started to take again, buy soybeans (imported) and will be back to produce in 3-4 days, so God willing, stocks of tofu and tempeh from 4 January, Monday morning. It is normal again, although there may be an increase, “he said.
Along with the possible increase in prices for tofu and tempeh in the market, Suhanto asked the public to understand this possibility.
The Ministry of Commerce itself will carry out a socialization on this possibility.
“I hope the public can understand, because it is impossible for us to replace the minimum demand for soy in the country,” he said.
On the other hand, Suhanto said that his ministry continues to work with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs to find a way out of the problem of high soybean prices in the international market.
Currently, he said, Kemenkop has reached out to the artisans to want to continue production.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture will try to increase the productivity of the national soybean production. Because, at present, national production only contributes around 30 percent of total demand.
The rest were closed to imports. “The Ministry of Agriculture is pursuing more so that productivity and quality increase. We also continue to coordinate in the field, ”he said.
According to Suhanto, the current rise in imported soy prices is due to the double increase in demand from China, from around 15 million tonnes to 30 million tonnes in December 2020. This has led to an increase in the price. of soybeans in the international market from US $ 11.92 to US $ 12.95 per busel.
“China buys twice as much. This makes prices go up about 9 percent,” he said.
