Manchester United received another penalty in the Premier League match. When against Aston Villa, Red Devils player Paul Pogba was judged as caught on his own foot.
At Old Trafford, Saturday (2/1/2021) WIB early morning, MU won 2-1 over The Villa. It was the Red Devils’ fourth home win at home.
The victory was not easy for MU. Anthony Martial put MU ahead in the 40th minute. Aston Villa leveled in the 58th minute through Bertrand Traore.
Three minutes later, MU received a penalty. Paul Pogba’s action in the Aston Villa penalty area was blocked by Douglas Luiz.
Luiz’s strong guard brought Pogba down in the penalty area, the referee who led the match, Michael Oliver, signaled the point.
Aston Villa manager Dean Smith initially agreed with Oliver’s decision to sanction Manchester United. However, he canceled it after watching the replay again.
“From my point of view it was a penalty from where I was standing. I thought Douglas Luiz was defending Paul Pogba too much, then I went in and looked back and I think he got caught in his own leg,” Smith told the BBC .
“I think there are enough doubts for the referee to look at the screen,” he added.
MU has received 6 penalties in the Premier League this season, the second most after Leicester City (10 times) in data reported by Transfermarkt. Of all these opportunities, Bruno Fernandes was the kicker. Five times the Portuguese player successfully scored the ball, the other missed.
