PURWAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Five people died due to capsized canoes in Cirata Reservoir, Kampung Pasir Wetan, Sirnagalih Village, Purwakarta Regency, on Friday (1/1/2021).

The sinking ship incident occurred at 12.10 WIB. Meanwhile, the evacuation process dragged on until 6.30 p.m. WIB.

The five victims were named Ai Latifah, Badar, Eneng, Aqila and Jian. Meanwhile, the survivors were Angga, Fitri, Uca, Ika and Desi.

Deden revealed that the incident started when Angga led a canoe with eight passengers onto the floating net from the edge of the reservoir. It was known that they were residents of Cianjur who wanted to eat there.

After driving about 20 meters, the ship backed away. Probably due to an overload.

“The canoe eventually sank. The driver was saved with five other passengers,” Deden said.

Badar, who saw the incident, immediately jumped in to save his wife. Unfortunately, due to fatigue, Badar also drowned.
