Article 28F of the 1945 Constitution is known to say “Everyone has the right to communicate and obtain information to develop their personal and social environment, and the right to search, obtain, possess, store, process and transmit information using all available channels “.
Likewise, the community also stated that article 2d of the edict violates the duties of journalists and the media, who by their profession fulfill the function of seeking and disseminating information to the public, including about the FPI.
He said that the right of journalists to seek information is regulated in Article 4 of Law No. 40 of 1999 on the Press, which states: “To guarantee freedom of the press, the national press has the right to seek, obtain and disseminate ideas and information “.
“The content of the information, which will process anyone who disseminates information about the FPI, can also be classified as a” retransmission prohibition “that is contrary to article 4 paragraph 2 of the Press Law,” he said.
Because it contains provisions that are incompatible with the principles of a democratic state, are not in line with the 1945 Constitution, and contradict the Press Law, the Press Community has urged the Chief of the National Police to revoke article 2d of the declaration.
“It urges the national press to continue reporting on various matters of public interest as ordered by the Press Law.”
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General of Police. Argo Yuwono assured that the edict of the Chief of Police on the prohibition of disseminating the content of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) would not interfere with freedom of expression or of the press.
According to Argo, in the ban, his party only emphasized that the public did not spread fake news or hoaxes that disturb public order and security.
“The most important thing is that with the broadcast of this announcement, we are not banning any press content,” Argo told reporters at the Bareskrim building on Friday (1/1).
