Former MPR president Amien Rais harshly criticized the government’s decision to ban the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) by mentioning the story of the pharaoh. PPP Secretary General Arsul Sani reminded Amien Rais to be careful with historical references.
“More than that, if the criticism is coming from role models, then you need to be careful when making historical references or images,” Arsul told reporters on Friday (1/1/2020).
“Especially if it will only add to new divisions in society,” he explained.
He asked Amien Rais to be proportional in seeing the problem. Arsul also criticized Amien’s critical attitude.
“Certainly a critical attitude is needed in our democratic life, but not critical of another origin, as long as it is contradictory, without seeing the factual side as a whole,” said Arsul.
If Amien continues to be critical but not looking at the facts, Arsul is concerned that there are antagonistic figures being referenced after Pharaoh.
“If the Pak Amien style continues like this, of course there will soon be more Pak Amien similes and equations with antagonistic figures that are associated in history or stories as negative figures,” Arsul said.
Earlier, Amien said that the government’s decision to ban all FPI activities had ended Indonesia’s democracy.
