After the government officially banned all activities of the Islamic Defenders Front or FPI, the leaders of the social organization (ormas) chose to adopt a form with the name of the Islamic United Front. However, the government does not care.
Initially, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud Md transmitted the decision to ban the FPI. Mahfud was accompanied by several officials, including Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, BIN Chief Budi Gunawan, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Menkum HAM Yasonna Laoly, Communication and Information Minister Johnny G Plate, PPATK Chief Dian Ediana Rae, BNPT Chief Komjen Boy Rafli Amar, National Police Chief General Idham Azis, to TNI Commander, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto.
“I would like to convey that the FPI since June 20, 2019 has de jure dissolved as a mass organization, but as an organization, the FPI continues to carry out activities that violate order and security and are contrary to the law” said Mahfud Md on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
The following is the content of the provisions of the joint decree on the prohibition of FPI activities:
Establish joint decisions of the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Indonesia, the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, the Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, the Head of the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia, the Head of the National Anti-Terrorism Agency in connection with the prohibition of activities using symbols and attributes and the termination of the activities of the Front for the Defense of Islam.
1. Declare that the Islamic Defenders Front is an organization that is not registered as a social organization according to what is regulated in the laws and regulations, therefore it has de jure dissolved as a social organization.
2. The Islamic Defenders Front, as an organization that has been dissolved de jure, in fact continues to carry out various activities that disturb public order and are contrary to the law.
3. Prohibit the use of activities to use the symbols and attributes of the Islamic Defenders Front within the legal territory of the Republic of Indonesia.
4. In the event of a violation as described in the third opinion above, the legal apparatus will stop all activities carried out by the Islamic Defenders Front.
5. Ask the community;

second. Inform law enforcement officials of the use of symbols and attributes of the Islamic Defenders Front
6. The ministries / agencies that sign this joint decree must coordinate and take measures to enforce the law in accordance with the legal provisions.
7. This collective decision will take effect on the stipulation date.

Later Munarman, who was one of the FPI figures along with several people, declared the Islamic United Front. The declarant from the United Islamic Front includes Munarman, formerly known as the FPI General Secretary and lawyer for Habib Rizieq. Besides Munarman, other names that became declarers were Habib Abu Fihir Alattas, Tb Abdurrahman Anwar, Ahmad Sabri Lubis, Abdul Qadir Aka, Awit Mashuri, Haris Ubaidillah, Habib Idrus Al Habsyi, Idrus Hasan, Habib Ali Alattas SH, Habib Ali Alattas S.Kom, Tuankota Basalamah, Habib Syafiq Alaydrus, Baharuzaman, Amir Ortega, Syahroji, Waluyo, Joko and M Luthfi.
However, Mahfud as Polhukam minister allows it despite the abbreviation of the Islamic Association Front being the same as the FPI or Islamic Defenders Front which has been banned.
