China confirms first case of new British coronavirus mutation

China has confirmed the first case of the variant corona virus only on Wednesday (12/30) local time.

The patient who contracted the new variant of the coronavirus was a 23-year-old woman from Shanghai. He arrived from England on December 14.

The woman was admitted to hospital after returning from the UK with mild symptoms. Doctors then ran genetic tests on the samples in question on December 24.

“Because there is a UK travel history and an abnormal nucleic acid test results,” explained the Chinese Center for Disease Control (CDC) citing AFP.

The patients were found to have a different type of coronavirus than previously found in Shanghai or Wuhan. Additional tests finally confirmed that the coronavirus was a new variant known as B.1.1.7.

“Health authorities have carried out contact tracing,” the CDC added.

This new variant of the corona virus is known to have spread in the UK since October. Experts say the new strain has the potential to spread faster than the original.

This condition causes several countries to restrict flights to and from the UK. China suspended direct flights to and from the UK indefinitely on December 24.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the new variant of the coronavirus was 70 percent more contagious than the original.

In addition to China, new corona virus mutations have so far spread in England, France, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, South Africa, Nigeria, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea. , United Arab Emirates, United States and Australia.
