Newcastle upon tyne –
The first half of the Newcastle United vs Liverpool duel is over. The provisional scoreboard is a goalless draw.
Liverpool, who must win to extend the distance from Manchester United, are struggling to develop their game. From the start of the match, Newcastle were able to defend well through the 5-4-1 formation and frustrated the visitors.
Newcastl made it difficult with a counterattack that several times nearly broke Liverpool’s net. Newcastle even made four attempts during the first half, more than their total in the same game at the end of last season.
However, Alisson Becker’s toughness between Liverpool posts caused several Newcastle chances to run aground at Callum Wilson. Liverpool could only threaten the Newcastle defense in the 34th minute.
Jordan Henderson provided gastric bait and Mo Salah escaped the offside trap. Before Matt Richie, Salah, who only faced the goalkeeper, failed to complete the goal, because his shot was pushed by Karl Darlow.
One more golden opportunity for Liverpool at the end of the first half. There is a corner, Roberto Firmino heads the ball but Darlow is able to block it again.
Score 0-0 to close this round.
