JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Polda Metro Jaya investigators extended Muhammad Rizieq Shihab’s (MRS) detention period for the next 40 days.
This was done because the investigation process against Rizieq had not yet been completed.
“In accordance with Article 24 of the Penal Code and for the purposes of the investigation that has not concluded, the MRS detention period is extended by 40 days from January 1 to February 9, 2021,” said the Head of the Division of Public Relations of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, in a written statement on Wednesday (12/30/2020).

MRS, Argo said, refused to sign the official report (BA) of the detention extension order.
However, the investigator respects the decision by continuing to do rejection minutes.
“Investigators continue to make BA refuse to sign the arrest sheet and BA extend the detention,” Argo said.
Previously, through the results of a case title carried out by investigators from Subdit 1 of State Security (Kamneg) of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, the MRS was identified as a suspect in the case of crowds and sedition .

Rizieq is suspected of violating article 160 of the Penal Code with a maximum penalty of 6 years in prison and article 216 of the Penal Code.
Due to the criminal threat of more than five years, considering the subjectivity and objectivity of the investigator, Rizieq was immediately detained for the next 20 days from December 12 to December 31, 2020.
