The government bans FPI, PKS: the state has failed to build Ormas

The coordinating minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud Md, together with several state officials, announced a ban on all forms of FPI activities and symbols. The chairman of the DPP PKS, Mardani Ali Sera, assessed that the ban on the FPI was the government’s failure in fostering mass organizations.

“Efforts to ban or dissolve mass organizations are actually a form of failure of the state to develop and convert mass organizations as social assets that are very useful for national development,” Mardani said in his statement on Wednesday ( 12/30/2020).

Mardani reminded all parties, the government and the FPI, in the corridor of the law. All actions, Mardani said, must be based on a constitutional basis.

“In a democratic country, all parties have the right to express their views and have the freedom to meet and associate. The FPI has the right to meet and associate,” Mardani said.

“The ban on the FPI can be answered in the hallway of a rule of law and a democratic country,” added the DPR member.

Previously, the government had officially banned all activities of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). The government says FPI doesn’t have one now Legal stay as a social organization (ormas).

The decision was said to be in accordance with decision MK 82 / PUU112013 dated December 23, 2014. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md called on all security forces to reject any activity by the organizations of the masses on behalf of the FPI.
