Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The provincial government of DKI Jakarta has reopened the option of an ’emergency brake’ on community activities. Entrepreneurs admit that they are concerned about this happening.
Sarman Simanjorang, president of the DPD Indonesian Indigenous Entrepreneurs Association (HIPPI) DKI Jakarta, even said that entrepreneurs are psychologically worried, anxious and upset.
“With this policy, the DKI Jakarta government will impose restrictions on hours of operation and restrictions on the movement of residents. If it returns to the previous one, it will certainly make economic activity more limited and stagnant,” Sarman said in an official statement. , quoted on Tuesday (12/29/2020).
According to him, this is a bad economic sign at the beginning of the year and will psychologically reduce the sense of optimism among business players. This is a consideration for the DKI Jakarta provincial government when formulating policy.
“Because the business world has been depressed and collapsed for 10 months, almost frustrated,” he said.
He said that if this policy comes into effect again, it has the potential to increase the number of layoffs (PHK) and a growing number of MSMEs will collapse or close, in addition to increasing the social burden on the government.
According to him, this policy will also have an impact on the improvement of Jakarta and the national economic growth because the Jakarta economy contributes 17% of the national GDP.
“Jakarta’s economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2020 also has the potential to remain negative after the second quarter grew negatively, minus 8.23%, and in the third quarter of 2020 it also contracted 3.82%. On the other hand, we business actors understand that Pemprov’s goal is very noble to maintain the health and safety of citizens, “explained Sarman.
According to him, the current situation is indeed a dilemma for the DKI Jakarta provincial government, which is a difficult choice but one that must be made. It hopes that the DKI Jakarta government will not be careless in carrying out socialization, supervision and strict sanctions that violate health protocols, including the obligation of all companies to form a Covid Working Group to ensure the implementation of the health protocols, including government agencies at the RT and RW levels.
“We really hope we can carefully and carefully consider due observance of the current economic conditions in Jakarta,” he said.
Covid-19 cases in the capital have continued to rise throughout December 2020. In fact, citing corona.jakarta.go.id, DKI Jakarta recorded a record four Covid-19 cases in December 2020 with details on December 17 with 1,690 cases, on December 19. 1,899 cases, December 23, 1,964 cases and more recently on December 25, 2,096 cases.
Therefore, DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria later spoke about the possibility of pulling the ’emergency brake’. However, the decision is not at the end of this year, but will closely follow the latest conditions until the beginning of January.
“Responding to this increase, we will continue to take various policies. We will see later in the next few days, after January 3, 2021, if possible later, the governor (Anies Baswedan), are there any emergency break or else we will see it according to the facts and the data, this is indeed very dynamic with respect to the facts and the data, “said Riza Patria at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, in South Jakarta, the Sunday (12/27/2020) cited by Detik.com.
