Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Businessmen are concerned that the DKI Jakarta provincial government will take extreme measures by pulling an ’emergency brake’ related to the Covid-19 case in Jakarta spiraling out of control.
Sarman Simanjorang, president of the DPD Indonesian Indigenous Entrepreneurs Association (HIPPI) DKI Jakarta, even said that the psychology of entrepreneurs is becoming worried, anxious and upset.
“With this policy, the DKI Jakarta government will impose restrictions on hours of operation and restrictions on space for citizens to move. If you go back in time, it will certainly make economic activity more limited and stagnant,” Sarman said in an official statement, on Monday (12/28).
According to him, this is a bad economic sign at the beginning of the year, and psychologically it will reduce the sense of optimism among business players. This is a consideration for the DKI Jakarta provincial government when formulating policy.
“Because 10 months have passed since the corporate world got depressed and collapsed, almost frustrated,” he said.
He said that if this policy comes back into force, it has the potential to increase the number of layoffs and more MSMEs will collapse or close, and increase the social burden on the government. This policy will also have an impact on the improvement of Jakarta and the national economic growth because the Jakarta economy contributes 17% of the national GDP.
“The economic growth of Jakarta in the fourth quarter of 2020 also has the potential to remain negative after the second quarter grew negative to minus 8.23% and in the third quarter of 2020 it also contracted 3.82%. On the other hand, the business actors understand that the provincial government aims to maintain the health and safety of residents, “explained Sarman.
According to him, the current situation is indeed a dilemma for the DKI Jakarta provincial government, which is a difficult choice but one that must be made. It hopes that the DKI Jakarta government will not be careless in carrying out socialization, supervision and strict sanctions that violate the prokes, including the obligation of all companies to form a Covid working group to ensure the implementation of the prokes, including the governmental apparatus at the RT and RW levels.
“We really hope we can carefully and carefully consider due observance of the current economic conditions in Jakarta,” he said.
Covid-19 cases in the capital have continued to rise throughout December 2020. In fact, citing corona.jakarta.go.id, DKI Jakarta recorded four Covid-19 cases in December 2020 with details on 17th of December with 1,690 cases, on December 19. 1,899 cases, December 23, 1,964 cases and more recently on December 25, 2,096 cases.
