Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – The Japanese government has decided to suspend the entry of foreign nationals who do not live in Japan after detecting variants of the Corona virus outside Japan.
Launching NHK On Sunday (12/27/2020), the Japanese Government will implement this measure between December 28 and January 31.
In fact, the Japanese government has allowed the entry of new foreigners with medium to long-term residence status from all countries and regions since October, but it will be prohibited from Monday (12/28/2020).
The government has said that it will continue to allow people to travel for business to and from certain countries and regions.
The Japanese government will also suspend conditional exemptions from the 14-day quarantine for Japanese citizens and foreigners with resident status in Japan who return to Japan after a short business trip abroad.
Under this new measure, all people returning to Japan from countries and regions where transmission of the new variant is reported must present documents that show that they have not contracted COVID-19. Travelers like this must be tested within 72 hours prior to departure and arrival in Japan.
Similar measures, intended to help prevent the entry of variants of the virus, have already been implemented for Great Britain and South Africa.
Japan began rejecting arrivals from South Africa on Saturday (12/26/2020). Japanese and foreign nationals who have a residence status in Japan can enter. However, they were asked to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Japan.
Japanese citizens of South Africa must provide evidence of negative testing within 72 hours of leaving the country. Previously, foreign nationals with residency status in Japan had been asked to do the same.
Similar measures were put in place for people arriving from Britain, where another new variant of the virus is spreading.
