JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Residents told the timeline of the Molotov cocktail launch at Al Istiqomah Mosque, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Saturday night (12/27/2020).
One of the local residents, Saifullah, said the incident started around 7:38 p.m. WIB.
“At the time of the incident, my position was again outside the mosque. I just finished Isha’s call to prayer. Then the fire was great in the courtyard of the mosque,” Saifullah said on Sunday (27/12 / 2020).
Not long ago, many neighbors screamed when they saw the flames in the courtyard of the mosque.

“I didn’t go into the courtyard of the mosque. My focus was on the perpetrators. You could say that I led the residents to arrest the perpetrators,” Saifullah said.
Saifullah suspected a young man was throwing Molotov cocktails because the perpetrator’s jacket saw flames.
“I can say it was the perpetrator because there was fire on the jacket on the back. It was even perforated. He had burns on his waist,” Saifullah said.
After that, Saifullah and the residents tried to arrest the perpetrator who was riding a motorcycle.
“We pulled the perpetrator’s motorcycle, we ran away, we fell. We pulled it again, we fell. When he was close to him, I took the initiative to take the key to the perpetrator’s motorcycle,” Saifullah said.
At the same time, there were motorcyclists passing by the mosque.
“When the perpetrator was being questioned on the street, someone yelled ‘don’t take the law into your own hands, I can see their faces.’ That doesn’t know if the perpetrator’s friends, journalists or the police,” Saifullah said.
Not long after, the perpetrator continued to enter the courtyard of the mosque.

“He said it was his own initiative,” said Masjid secretary Zainal Abidin.
“He also defended himself, when a resident hit him, he wanted to hit him back,” Saifullah said.
Suspicion of mental illness
Saifullah said that according to the accounts of the families of the perpetrators, the perpetrators had mental disorders.
“According to his family’s admission, there is a mental disorder. He said he was naked in the Kamal roundabout. He said he was taken to a mental hospital, but the letter was not known to us yet,” Saifullah said.
