Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Tenants of the retail mall space have complained about the operating policy that is limited to 19.00 WIB, causing sales to decline. The businessmen suggested that the hours of operation of the shopping centers in the DKI Jakarta shopping centers be limited to 20.00 WIB.

The President of the Indonesian Mall Tenants Association (HIPPINDO) Budihardjo Iduansjah suggested that the shopping malls in DKI Jakarta run until 20.00 WIB.

“I keep saying at least. At 8:00 pm, people are still fine eating, after 19:30 WIB, what are they in a hurry to buy, for example, in the supermarket, then they go home. It is still delicious “Budi was quoted as saying by detikcom’s CNBC Indonesia on Sunday (12/27/2020).

The limitation on the operating hours of shopping centers in DKI is stipulated in the Instruction of the Governor of DKI Jakarta (Ingub) number 64 of 2020. The Ingub was signed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, on December 16, 2020.

In Ingub, the shopping centers in DKI that have been operational until 9:00 p.m. are limited to 7:00 p.m. WIB during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holiday periods, that is, from December 24 to 27 and December 31 to January 3, 2021.

According to Budi, this condition is the same as in September 2020, where visitors to the shopping center could only buy food to take home, but could not eat on the spot or have dinner.

“When eating is not allowed in September, everyone’s turnover is only 10-20%. Because nobody wants to go to the mall, they want to eat, they can’t sit down. Buy it at home. It’s a disturbed ecosystem, clothing stores, shops cosmetics, handbag stores, bookstores are all beaten, calm, “he said.

According to Budi, without being limited to 9:00 p.m. WIB, all shopping centers, especially in DKI, have strictly implemented health protocols to prevent COVID-19. Its capacity is also limited to avoid crowds.

“The 50% restriction was implemented. So those who enter and leave are regulated. So the 50% capacity in the shopping center is optimal. For example, the capacity of a car that arrives at the shopping center is 5 people, for what 2 people can get in. People get in, 2 people leave. So it’s actually optimal, “he said.

The president of the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI), Alphonsus Widjaja, has a similar opinion. According to him, the shopping center’s hours of operation need not be limited because it has implemented strict health protocols.

“From the beginning, the health protocols have been applied in layers. The first layer is the Health Protocol applied by the mall manager. The second layer is the health protocol applied by the tenants of the mall,” he said.
