Manchester City won all the points when they faced Newcastle United in the Premier League Boxing Day match this weekend. The Citizens won convincingly 2-0.
Match 15 of the 2020/2021 Premier League brings the match together. Man City vs Newcastle was held at the Etihad Stadium, on Sunday (12/27/2020) at the WIB in the morning. The hosts took the lead 1-0 in the first half thanks to Ilkay Guendogan’s goal.
In the second half, Man City added to the scoreboard through a goal from Ferran Torres. The match ended with the victory of The Sky Blues 2-0.
These results brought Man City to fifth place in the Premier League standings with 26 points. Meanwhile, Newcastle is stuck at No. 12 with 18 points.
The course of the match
Man City immediately stepped on the gas from the start of the match. The home team hit the Newcastle baseline for 10 minutes of the game.
Objective! Man City managed to score a goal in the 14th minute. Ilkay Guendogan scored his name on the scoreboard.
Starting with Raheem Sterling’s stab on the right side of the penalty area, he then passes a short ball that Guendogan receives with a shot into Newcastle’s goal. Man City leads 1-0.
Man City threatened again with a Kevin de Bruyne kick from the left side in the 18th minute. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow could still deny these efforts.
De Bruyne had another golden opportunity in the 34th minute. Aside from the offside trap, the Man City captain faced Darlow and threw a ball that the Newcastle keeper was able to thwart.
Sterling came close to scoring Man City’s second goal in the 38th minute with a shot from close range down the right. Darlow was able to seize these opportunities.
No additional goals were scored until halftime. The first half closed 1-0 to Man City’s advantage.
Going into the second half, Man City did not relax his attacks. As a result, the second goal of the home team came in the 55th minute.
Joao Cancelo fired a shot into the penalty area that hit Newcastle’s rear. The ball bounced towards Ferran Torres who immediately converted it into a goal. The position changed 2-0.
Man City continues to press Newcastle’s bottom line to score more goals in the remaining time. But until the game is over, the 2-0 score for The Citizens remains unchanged.
