THE MIND OF THE PEOPLE – Some time ago, news emerged that the Israeli government was trying to open diplomatic relations with Indonesia.
However, the Indonesian government firmly through Foreign Minister (Menlu) Retno Marsudi said that Indonesia did not intend to open diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.
The rejection was led by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

In fact, Donald Trump promised an investment of 28 trillion IDR in Indonesia, if the country led by President Jokowi is willing to open diplomatic relations with Israel.
In response to this, University of Indonesia (UI) Professor of International Law Hikmahanto Juwana said that Donald Trump’s offer was very tempting for the country with the largest Islamic population outside the Middle East.
“Of course, such an offer is very tempting for Indonesia amid the weakening of the Indonesian economy due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” Hikmahanto said in his statement on Friday, December 25, 2020.

However, according to him, Indonesia could not accept the offer if the reward was to open diplomatic relations.
