Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) considers that the measure of the West Kalimantan Provincial Government (Kalbar) to prohibit Batik Air from taking passengers to Pontianak is inappropriate.

This was relayed by Transport Ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati in response to the policy of the West Kalimantan Provincial Government to ban Batik Air from visiting the capital of West Kalimantan because Covid-19 positive passengers were found some time ago.

“The provincial government should not impose an error on the airline. Because the examination of the sanitary documents and the validation is done by the Port Health Office or KKP,” Adita told CNBC Indonesia on Friday (12/25/2020) .

He added that the airline does not have the authority to perform document checks and validate them.

According to Adita, prior to this incident, the same incident had occurred and happened to several airlines. The Transport Ministry also sent a letter of objection to the matter.

CNBC Indonesia has also contacted PT Angkasa Pura II to request information on the matter. However, until this news was published there had been no response.

Previously, the West Kalimantan provincial government banned Batik Air from carrying passengers to Pontianak for the next 10 days starting Thursday (12/24/2020). This is related to the findings of the airline’s passengers that turned out to be positive for Covid-19.

The ban was broadcast directly by the Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji, on his personal Facebook account. He also said that he did not care that the decision generated good complaints from the central government, in this case the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport.

“The Director General of Civil Aviation wants to protest and is angry. It means that they are not coordinating well with Angkasa Pura and the KKP,” Sutarmidji wrote.

“I suggest that the Ministry of Transport organize this well, so as not to allow the Ministry of Transport to become the source of the spread of Covid-19. As head of the working group, I will be strict and enter West Kalimantan until 8th of January 2021 with a free letter from Covid-19 via PCR swab test, “he continued. .
