Indonesia can get billions of US dollars in financial assistance if it wants to establish a relationship with Israel. This offer came at the behest of President Donald Trump, who is currently mediating between Muslim countries to build relations with the Jewish country. How does Indonesia respond to this lucrative offer?
Reported Bloomberg, Wednesday (12/23/2020), was stated by the executive director of the US International Financial Development Corporation (DFC), a government agency that invests abroad, Adam Boehler, in an interview on Monday ( 12/21) local time at King David Hotel, Jerusalem.
Boehler mentioned that DFC could double or more than its current $ 1 billion portfolio, if Indonesia were willing to establish relations with Israel.
“We are discussing it with them,” Boehler said in the interview.
“If they are ready, they are ready and if they are, we will be more than happy to financially support more than we do,” he continued.
Boehler said he would not be surprised if his organizational funding for Indonesia, the world’s Muslim-majority country, increased to “another $ 1 or 2 billion (US).”
US and Israeli leaders said they expect more countries to join the wave of normalization agreements with Israel announced in recent months. Countries that have joined include the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco.
The United States also hopes that Oman and Saudi Arabia will join forces, although Boehler said DFC funding for the two countries would be limited. This is because the organization cannot invest directly in higher income countries.
Boehler is in Israel as part of a delegation with Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner. Next in Morocco, Boehler said he would announce the opening of the first Prosper Africa branch in North Africa, an initiative to boost business between the US.
He also said his agency is likely to become part of a debt syndicate to help finance Israel’s sale of the country’s largest port in northern Haifa. American companies and Emirati companies have shown interest in the tender, and Boehler said he would seek offers that involve American citizens or United States allies such as the United Arab Emirates.
