Jakarta –
Arsenal were able to match Manchester City, before finally losing 1-4. Mikel Arteta highlighted a series of incidents that punished Arsenal.
Arsenal lost 1-4 to Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday (12/23/2020) early morning WIB, in the quarter-finals of the English League Cup. Gabriel Jesús conceded a quick goal in the third minute, Arsenal equalized through Alexandre Lacazette to close the first half at 1-1.
The situation was bad for Arsenal in the second half. Runar’s goalkeeper Alex Runarsson made a mistake on a free kick by Riyad Mahrez and conceded in the 54th minute.
Five minutes later, another bad luck fell on Arsenal when Phil Foden stormed into it. The replay shows Foden in an offside position receiving a pass from Fernandinho, but it cannot be reviewed because there is no video assistant referee (VAR).
The two goals practically hampered Arsenal’s chances of saving the match. Man City then scored Aymeric Laporte’s third goal to secure qualification with a 4-1 win.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has scored an offside goal and a goal from his own mistake, obscuring reality on the field. Man City dominates possession, but Arsenal can at least contain themselves.
“Facing opponents of this level, they punished you and made the game very difficult for you. We had a good counterattack moment, but then they scored from an offside position and you ended up losing again,” he said. Sky sports quoted BBC.
“This is a difficult result to accept considering how the game is going. Rivals of this level, when you only score goals, the game is impossible. A lot of strange things happen in each game and that makes things very difficult.”
“We have to reverse this situation, there is no doubt about the schedule we have, it will determine our season. Based on what we show tonight against difficult opponents, I have fighters in the team. Yes, I have fighters,” Mikel continued. Arteta.
