President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced a new minister. One of them is Budi Gunadi Sadikin as the new Minister of Health (Menkes) previously held by Dr. Terawan Agus Putranto.
“Mr. Budi Gunadi Sadikin. Previously he was Principal Director of Bank Mandiri, then Principal Director of PT Inalum, and finally Vice Minister of BUMN and now we give him the responsibility of leading the Ministry of Health,” Jokowi said in a YouTube video broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday (12/22/2020).
In recent years, the position of Indonesian Minister of Health has been dominated by doctors. The appointment of Budi Gunadi Sadikin was quite surprising because he had no medical history.
Budi Gunadi Sadikin, who is now the new Minister of Health, was a man born on July 8, 1964, who had a Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Physics from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Citing the official Inalum website, Budi’s career began in 1988 as a member of the information technology staff at IBM Asia Pacific, Tokyo, Japan. After that, Budi was transferred to IBM Indonesia with his last position as Manager of Systems Integration and Professional Services.
He also served as Executive Vice President of Consumer Banking at PT Bank Danamon Tbk (2004-2006), Director of Micro and Retail Banking at PT Bank Mandiri Tbk (2006-2013), President Director of PT Bank Mandiri Tbk (2013-2016) , in Special Personnel of the Minister. BUMN (2016-2017).
On October 25, 2019, Budi Gunadi was appointed by Jokowi Vice Minister of BUMN. Since July 2020, he has served as chair of the National Economic Recovery Task Force (PEN) and has been directly involved in the treatment of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some time ago, Budi Gunadi shared his experience of ‘hunting’ the COVID-19 vaccine for Indonesia. Since September, state-owned companies have linked up with nine vaccine companies from China, the United States (US), Germany and the United Kingdom.
“Since September, Indonesia has reached out to all the existing vaccine companies, and we only selected nine companies that have passed the third phase of clinical trials,” he said.
