The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has met with representatives of the German Embassy in connection with one of its diplomatic officials who visited the FPI headquarters in Petamburan, Jakarta. The Foreign Ministry said diplomatic staff from the German embassy would be repatriated to their home countries.

“The German embassy said that diplomatic staff had been asked to return immediately (to Germany, red) to account for their actions and provide clarification to the government,” the official statement from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said on Monday. (12/21/2020).

In a meeting with the Foreign Ministry, the German Embassy said that its diplomatic staff came to the FPI headquarters on personal initiative. The German Embassy apologized and regretted this incident.

“The Head of the Representative of the German Embassy said that the presence of the personnel of the German Embassy in the place and the meeting held was by personal initiative without obtaining the order or the knowledge of the direction of the German Embassy. For this incident, the Head of the Representative Office of the German Embassy expressed his apologies and regrets for the incident. ” explained the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The German Embassy also expressed the support of the German government to continue bilateral cooperation with Indonesia to combat intolerance, radicalism and hate speech. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded that the German Embassy give an official statement to the public about its diplomatic personnel who visited the headquarters of the FPI.
