Arif Hermawan (27), a self-employed daily worker from Sumbermulyo Village, Pesanggaran Sub-district, is held accountable for his actions in the cell of the Pesanggaran Police Station. This thief fell asleep and stole dozens of mobile phones and cash. This thief was massaged after being arrested by neighbors, because he fell asleep on the tiled counter where he broke in.

Arif performed the action around 12.30am WIB, on Friday morning (12/18/2020). The perpetrator managed to enter the counter by climbing a tree near the counter. Then the assailant went through the ceiling to enter the counter where the occupants had left. Taking advantage of the calm conditions at the counter, the perpetrators freely carried out the action.

“At that time, the victim on behalf of Samsuri came back from the counter around 22.00 WIB. All the items (cell phones) were kept in a safe place. There was also the remaining money in the drawer,” said the police chief of Banyuwangi, Kombes Arman Asmara Syarifudin, at detikcom, on Sunday (12/20 2020).

Furthermore, the police chief continued, the victim returned to the counter around 0600 WIB. But the victim was surprised to see the contents of the messy counter. In addition, the safe was also broken as a place to store cell phones.

“The victim immediately asked residents for help. When he was checking the counter, suddenly someone yelled that the thief was on the tile. He said he was sleeping on it,” he said.

When he learned that neighbors had come to the perpetrator, the police chief added, the perpetrator went back down to the counter. It was then that the mob waiting below struck the perpetrator. The perpetrator had become the target of the residents. Fortunately, the police acted quickly to contain the anger of the neighbors and save those responsible.

To be held accountable for his actions, the perpetrator must now be detained at the Pesanggaran Police.

As a result of this thief, the owner of the Samsuri counter suffered a loss of up to tens of million rupees. In addition to securing the perpetrators, the police also managed to confiscate several stolen evidence in the form of cash worth Rs 362 thousand and dozens of mobile phone units belonging to the victim.
