Jakarta –
Cristiano Ronaldo also chose Lionel Messi in the vote for the FIFA best player award. But otherwise, Messi did not choose his rival.
The 2020 FIFA Soccer Best Award Gala was held virtually on Friday (12/18/2020) on the morning of the WIB. The FIFA Best Male Player category is the most anticipated.
The category looks for the best male soccer player in the world. There are three names vying to win it, namely Robert Lewandowski, Ronaldo and Messi.
In this category, voting is conducted by the captains and coaches of the national teams of the FIFA member countries. This means that Lewandowki, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi can vote for the three names they have won.
Lewandowski, as captain of the Polish team, chose Thiago Alcantara, his teammate at Bayern Munich, and Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain) and Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City).
The interesting thing then is Cristiano Ronaldo. The captain of the Portuguese team and the Juventus forward did favor Lewandowski, then Messi and Kylian Mbappé (PSG).
And Messi apparently did not enter Ronaldo’s name. The Argentine captain and Barcelona forward prefers first Lewandowski, then Neymar, then Mbappé.
Lewandowski won the result himself. The 32-year-old won 52 points, well ahead of Ronaldo (38) and Messi (35).
Lewandowski’s success saw him snatch the title from Lionel Messi, who won it last year. As for Cristiano Ronaldo, he has not won it since 2017.
Lewandowski’s own success cannot be separated from his performance throughout the 2019/2020 season, which took place halfway through the season in the midst of the pandemic. The former Borussia Dortmund player scored 55 goals and helped Bayern Munich achieve the treble, winning the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB Pokal trophies.
