Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Epidemiologist The Faculty of Public Health of the University of Indonesia (FKM UI) Pandu Riono thanked the president’s steps Joko widodo what is free coronavirus vaccine for all Indonesians.

Pandu said that Jokowi finally realized that he was taking the right steps, as the independently paid vaccine scheme aka aliases has recently become a controversy.

“If it’s free, it doesn’t mean an emergency clinical trial permit is allowed, you still have to follow the procedure. [Vaksin gratis] That’s tremendous progress, I thank Pak Jokowi, he finally realized. So keep in mind that the state must be present to resolve this pandemic, “Pandu said when contacted. CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (12/16).

The government can finally implement the mandate enshrined in Law Number 6 of 2018 on Health Care and Law Number 4 of 1984 on Outbreaks of Infectious Diseases.

Because if the government continues to implement a paid vaccine scheme, according to him, the government has betrayed the rules or legal products that have been made.

However, Pandu asked for the free euphoria of the vaccine, which did not necessarily lead to lax oversight of obtaining the vaccine. Efficacy or efficacy and safety must remain an important guarantee for the government in providing free vaccines to people.

“If efficacy and safety are still unclear, we still don’t want to. So even though it’s free, we want the best, free and safe,” he said.

He also warned that the effectiveness of vaccines would really become an important point for the government to decide on vaccines. Although China’s candidate vaccine, Sinovac, was imported into Indonesia with a total of 1.2 million doses last Sunday (12/6). However, if the effectiveness of Sinovac is low, Indonesia does not need to force itself to use it.

“If Sinovac has low efficacy, then you don’t need to use it,” he said.

Contacted separately, the Expert Council of the Indonesian Association of Public Health Experts (IAKMI), Hermawan Saputra, called on the government to be more assertive and rigorous in its efforts to procure vaccines and distribute vaccines.

“We IAKMI appreciate that the government finally listens to the voice of the people, what remains to be done to monitor the implementation, because it is certainly not as simple as imagined,” Hermawan told CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (12/16).

Hermawan hopes that the logistical preparations, the procurement covering the efficacy of the vaccines, the process of distributing the vaccine to each region, public communication and officials should be carefully prepared.

Preparations are needed so that vaccination in the country runs smoothly and can meet the government’s goal of generating it. group immunity or group immunity against transmission of the corona virus.

“Although the language is free, the goal of vaccination must be achieved. Not getting the wrong distribution and destination, so this requires extraordinary speech and supervision,” Hermawan said.

In line with Pandu, Hermawan also assessed that the decision of the Food and Drug Supervision Agency (BPOM) regarding the issuance of emergency permits for the use of vaccines has yet to be carried out on the principle of transparency and independence. So the vaccine that will be distributed to the public will truly be one of the helpers of the community in the midst of this pandemic.

He also called that in the future, vaccine candidates imported to Indonesia should have good efficacy standards. This means that the government must study and establish better relationships with various global vaccine producers. So if the vaccine candidate has an advantage over the others, Indonesia may have a special seat.

“Because each vaccine candidate has its advantages and disadvantages, the government needs to network with vaccine producers to really find opportunities that are made in Indonesia,” he said.

President Jokowi finally declared that the corona vaccination was free for the entire community. This means that Jokowi abolished the independent vaccine scheme, also known as payment.

“It is free at all. For that I instruct all cabinets, ministries / agencies, local governments to prioritize the vaccination program for the 2021 budget year,” Jokowi said.

The independent scheme was previously regulated in the Decree of the Ministry of Health HK.01.07 / Menkes / 9860/2020, which was signed by the Minister of Health Agus Terawan Putranto on December 3.

The ministerial decree stipulates two Covid-19 vaccination schemes, where the free ones are administered by the Ministry of Health, while the independent paid alias is administered by the Ministry of BUMN.

The ministerial decree also stipulates six types of Covid-19 vaccines that can be used in the vaccination process in Indonesia. All six vaccines are produced by Bio Farma, Astra Zeneca, Sinopharm, Moderna, Pfizer Inc and BioNtech, and Sinovac Biotech.
