jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Professor of the Islamic State University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Professor Azyumardi Azra asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to take his own responsibility to the state in dealing fairly with human rights violators (HAM) ).
“President Jokowi must not transfer responsibility from the state and its government to the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas). That makes people critical and irritated with the government, including President Jokowi,” Azyumardi said.
He broadcast this statement on the Indonesian Science Institute (LIPI) Professor Talk forum that took place online in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/15).
The academic who was born in Lubuk Alung on March 4, 1955, said that Komnas HAM could only investigate and investigate public reports on cases of human rights violations. Meanwhile, to take action against human rights violators, it is the authority of the government.
“How can Komnas HAM solve it, investigate and investigate? However, to follow up, for example, take action against human rights violators, it cannot. It must be the government,” he said.
Professor Azyumardi claimed that the differences in the content of President Jokowi’s speech about the Sigi shooting and the shooting that killed six citizens on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road have raised public questions about legal justice in this country.
“That is what he then referred to as the sense of injustice. And that is what we hope there will be changes. Thank you,” Azyumardi said in a forum where LIPI professors’ research on Creating harmony in diversity was discussed: problems and solutions.
