Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

NasDem Party Faction DPR Commission III Vice Chairman Ahmad Sahroni understands why Polda Metro Jaya arrest the leadership of the FPI, Rizieq Shihab after being named a suspect in the crowd case in Petamburan, central Jakarta, last month.

Sahroni said it is not impossible for Rizieq to return to flee abroad as he was in legal proceedings against him three years ago.

“It could be because he was previously also abroad so they could not find him, so to expedite the examination, he must be detained because his condition is already suspicious,” Sahroni told reporters through an official statement on Sunday. (12/13).

According to him, the police had carefully examined the legal measures taken. Therefore, he asked all Rizieq supporters to remain calm and do not do anything outside the corridors of the law.

“If you are dissatisfied or want to make a defense, please do so in the hall of law through court instruments later,” he said.

He also assured that Commission III would continue to supervise the legal process that was being carried out in this case. This NasDem Party politician also guaranteed that the investigation of the 6 shootings of the Laskar Defenders of Islam (LPI) would also take place.

“We also ensure that the case of the shooting of FPI sympathizers yesterday will also be thoroughly investigated. The important thing is that the community remains calm,” he said.

To obtain information, Rizieq was named a suspect in incitement, sparking a crowd that violated health protocols in Petamburan, in central Jakarta, some time ago.

He was then detained for the next 20 days starting on December 12, 2020. Investigators placed the leader of the FPI in the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center (Rutan).

However, FPI’s lawyers stated that they would make an effort to postpone Rizieq’s arrest because it could be guaranteed that he would not flee.

Meanwhile, the head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, revealed that one of the subjective reasons why investigators detained the suspect in the case of violating Rizieq Shihab’s health protocol was to that the suspect did not flee.

In addition, according to him, the investigators have two other subjective reasons for detaining the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), namely, not to lose evidence and repeat similar criminal acts.
