JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Polda Metro Jaya named the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Rizieq Shihab as a suspect in the crowd case that occurred in Petamburan, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on November 14, 2020.

The leader of the FPI was charged with article 160 of the Penal Code regarding incitement and article 216 of the Penal Code regarding the fight against agents.

Rizieq, whose full name is Al Habib Muhammad Rizieq bin Hussein Shihab, is not the first time he has stumbled upon a legal case.

1. The suspect in the anti-American demonstration of 2001

In 2001, Rizieq was named a suspect in a demonstration against the United States (USA) around the US Embassy in Jalan Merdeka Selatan.

The demonstration took place on October 15, 2001.

Rizieq was identified as a suspect because he was suspected of inciting, insulting and spreading hatred against the government and the police.

It is also considered that he violated Law No. 9 of 1998 regarding the issuance of opinions in public, specifically the holding of demonstrations during the holidays.

Because, the anti-US demonstration was held on a national holiday to commemorate Isra Miraj of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

2. The sedition suspect in 2002

A year later, Rizieq Shihab was again identified as a suspect for inciting the attack and destruction of various entertainment venues in Jakarta by members of the FPI.

The vandalism took place on October 4, 2002.

Polda Metro Jaya decided to detain Rizieq on October 16, 2002 after he underwent an examination for approximately 13 hours and 30 minutes.

Rizieq was arrested because there was sufficient evidence to show that he was suspected of violating article 160 of the Penal Code on Sedition.

However, at the time, Rizieq refused to sign the arrest warrant issued by the police.

Subsequently, an official report was made that Rizieq refused to sign the arrest warrant.

Despite this, Rizieq Shihab continued to be detained by the police.

Rizieq then requested the suspension of the detention for the incitement case.

However, the police lifted the suspension of detention against Rizieq in 2003.

The Rizieq case file was sent directly to the DKI Superior Court and declared complete on March 7, 2003.

In this regard, the police summoned the interested party to appear on March 7, 2003.

However, Rizieq did not comply with the first summons and the second summons on March 9, 2003.

Rizieq is known to have left for Malaysia on March 8, 2003 on a mission to Iraq.

He was then forced to return to Indonesia and picked up at Soekarno Hatta airport on April 20, 2003.

In addition, the FPI leader was detained at the Salemba Detention Center in central Jakarta.

On August 11, 2003, Rizieq Shihab was sentenced to seven months in prison by a panel of judges chaired by Hery Swantoro at the Jakarta Central District Court.

The jury found Rizieq guilty of inciting a crime and expressed hostility, hatred or contempt for the Indonesian government.

In the ruling, the panel of judges sentenced the accused to seven months, reduced the period of detention of the accused in detention and ordered that the accused remain in detention.

At the time, Rizieq had been detained for almost four months, leaving only three months for his detention.

In 2004 and 2006, FPI was again involved in the vandalism of various entertainment venues in Jakarta. However, Rizieq was only questioned as a witness.

3. Suspect in the Monas riot of 2008

In 2008, Rizieq again encountered a criminal beating case until he stepped onto the court table.

He was sentenced to one and a half years in prison by a panel of judges at the Jakarta Central District Court on October 31, 2008 for the beatings and riots in Monas.

“It was conclusively proven that the defendant Habib Rizieq committed a criminal act in defense of violence against persons and property. The Monas riot occurred between members of the FPI and the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Belief (AKKBB) on June 1, 2008, on Pancasila’s birthday.

The Monas mutiny became known as the Monas Incident.

According to the results of Polda Metro Jaya’s investigation, Rizieq was shown to be the mastermind behind the AKKBB attack on Monas.

The incident started when AKKBB held an action to commemorate Pancasila’s birthday in Monas.

Later, the AKKBB crowd was attacked by a mass with the attributes of the Islamic Defenders Front and various other community organizations.

The violent action resulted in the dissolution of the commemoration of Pancasila’s birthday in the Monas area. At least 12 AKKBB participants were injured as a result of the violence perpetrated by FPI.

Among the injured are the Executive Director of the International Center for Islam and Pluralism (ICIP) Syafii Anwar, the Executive Director of the Wahid Achmad Suaedi Institute and the leader of the Al Mizan KH Maman Islamic Internship Imanul Haq Faqih in Majalengka.

4. Suspicious cases chat pervert in 2017

In 2017, Rizieq was named a suspect in the case. chat WhatsApp contains pornographic content that allegedly involves him with Firza Husein.

The conversation features a photo of a nude woman suspected of being Firza, while Rizieq is suspected of being Firza’s partner in the conversation.

Not only Rizieq, Polda Metro Jaya also named Firza as a suspect in a case of pornographic conversation.

Firza was charged with article 4, paragraph 1 together with Article 29 and or Article 6 together with Article 32 and or Article 8 together with Article 34 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 44 of 2008 on Pornography carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Still, the police did not arrest Firza because his health deteriorated after he was identified as a suspect.

Meanwhile, Rizieq has always been absent from police subpoenas to question about cases of conversations with pornographic content. At the time, Rizieq argued that he was carrying Umrah to Saudi Arabia.

5. The suspect in the 2017 Pancasila defamation case

Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran also stressed that the police will arrest suspects in the crowd case.

“For the suspects, the Polda Metro Jaya investigators will make arrests,” Fadil said at the Metro Jaya police headquarters in South Jakarta on Thursday (10/12/2020).
