Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Vice President of Commission III DPR RI of the Gerindra Party faction Desmond Junaidi Mahesa ask about the purpose of the training Laskar Pembela Islam Front (FPI).
This question was relayed by Desmond at the General Audience Meeting (RDPU) between DPR Commission III and the families of the victims who died in the confrontation between the police and members of the FPI on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road around Karawang.
If the formation of the FPI Laskar was aimed at establishing an Islamic state, according to him, this would be against the Indonesian constitution.
“Well, what is Laskar’s goal now, to establish an Islamic state? That is against the constitution,” Desmond said at the RDPU that took place at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Thursday (12/10) .
He argues that the term laskar is the same as that of soldiers commonly used to deal with war situations. Desmond questioned which party was trying to fight the FPI through the formation of this army.
“If this is the army, the right thing is the army. Then I am also confused, this laskar is also the army for war, who is the war with? I am also confused. Yes, if this is the army, this is the war, this is not true either, “he said.
Desmond recognized that the existence of this FPI Laskar showed that Indonesia was in a state of war as in the era of revolution.
According to him, the Laskar presence in Indonesia once existed with the aim of fighting for independence. “My grandfather was also a commander in the army, but the goal was independence,” Desmond said.
Proceeding from that, Desmond requested that the term laskar be used with caution. According to him, there should be nothing that could potentially harm Indonesia.
He asked that the use of the term laskar also be accurate so as not to give the impression of a war between Indonesians.
“Things like this, in my opinion, you need to be careful. Don’t let Indonesia, which is already at peace in the midst of its many troubles, fight with us, we really want to dissolve this country, right?”
FPI Laskar’s presence came into the spotlight after being involved in a clash with police on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road around Karawang, West Java on Monday (12/7).
Six members of the FPI Laskar who were in charge of escorting Rizieq died in that incident.
