The successful team of incumbent district chief candidate Bantul Suharsono admitted defeat in the 2020 Bantul regional elections. From the results quick count Suharsono’s opponent, Abdul Halim Muslih, stood out with votes above 50 percent.
The president of the winning Suharsono-Totok Sudarto (NoTo) team, Arif Iskandar, said that the figure was obtained from the data of the application of the information system on the results of the recapitulation of the vote count of the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS).
“As of this afternoon, 93 percent have entered and we continue to lag behind, because the difference is quite a lot, around 100,000. So, we have lost, with 42.5 percent of votes, compared to 57.5 percent. it’s what I can report, “Arif said when meeting with reporters in Jalan Parangtritis, Sewon District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), on Wednesday (9/12/2020).
From this data, he is pessimistic about catching up with candidate pair Abdul Halim Muslih-Joko Purnomo (AHM-JP). Even so, his party will continue to await the results of the KPU recap.
“We have done our best. However, based on the results of this vote count, we have to admit defeat and acknowledge the superiority of the No. 1 candidate pair,” Arif said.
“But we are still waiting for the results of the KPU recap. Because tomorrow morning the recap at the sub-district level has started,” Arif added.
It should be noted that the incumbent ruling candidate, Bantul Suharsono, fought his MP Abdul Halim Muslih in the 2020 Bantul regional elections. The data was collected from 26 polling stations out of a total of 2,085 polling stations in the Bantul Regency.
Meanwhile, the candidate pair Abdul Halim Muslih claimed to have won 58 percent, or about 304,000 votes. He asked his supporters and opponents to unite again.
“We need them all. We must understand that Bantul is a common property that must be built in synergy with all levels and components of society,” said Abdul Halim at Tembi Cultural House, Sewon District, Bantul Regency.
Based on the quick count of Halim-Joko’s Winning Seat at 16.55 WIB, Candidate Pair 01 got 304,943 votes, while Candidate Team 02 got 227,405 votes. This number came from 2,013 polling stations, while the total number of polling stations in Bantul was 2,085.
“This victory is proof that the people have given their sovereignty by giving us their right to vote,” he said.
